Modeling ionic mobilities by scattering on electronic density isosurfaces: Application to silicon cluster anions

چکیده
We have developed a new formalism to evaluate the gas-phase mobility of an ion based on elastic scattering on an electronic density isosurface ~SEDI!. In this method, the ion is represented by a surface of arbitrary shape defined as a set of points in space where the total electron density assumes a certain value. This value is the only adjustable parameter in the model. Conceptually, this treatment emulates the interaction between a drifting ion and the buffer gas atoms closer than the previously described methods, the exact hard spheres scattering ~EHSS! model and trajectory calculations, where the scattering occurs in potentials centered on the nuclei. We have employed EHSS, trajectory calculations, and SEDI to compute the room temperature mobilities for low-energy isomers of Sin (n<20) cations and anions optimized by density functional theory ~DFT! in the local density approximation and generalized gradient approximation. The results produced by SEDI are in excellent agreement with the measurements for both charge states, while other methods can fit the mobilities for cations only. Using SEDI, we have confirmed the structural differences between Sin 1

Density-functional description of electrides.
Electrides are a unique class of ionic solids in which the anions are stoichiometrically replaced by electrons localised within the crystal voids. There are only nine electrides with known crystal structures and their study represents a challenge for theory. A systematic investigation of their electronic structure is conducted using semilocal density-functional theory (DFT) in this article. The...
متن کاملHigh-resolution ion mobility measurements for silicon cluster anions and cations
High-resolution ion mobility measurements have been performed for silicon cluster anions and cations, Sin 2 and Sin 1 , n56 – 55. New isomers have been resolved for every cluster size larger than Si20 . The results for the anions and the cations have the same global features. However, changing the charge often causes a shift in the isomer distribution, or causes new isomers to emerge. For examp...

The B3LYP/6-31++G** density functional calculations were used to obtain minimum geometries and interaction energies between the molecular hydrogen and nanostructures of fullerenes, C20 (cage), C20 (bowl), C19Si (bowl, penta), C19Si (bowl, hexa). The H2 molecule is set as adsorbed in the distance of 3Å at vertical position from surface above the pentagonal and hexagonal sites of nanostructures. ...
متن کاملImpact of minority-impurity scattering on the carrier mobility in compensated silicon
In this paper, we review two different determinations of the minority impurity scattering in silicon. We show that an improper determination of minority impurity scattering can lead to potential errors in the modeling of carrier mobilities in compensated silicon. Early experimental results show that the effect of minority impurities may be underestimated in Klaassen’s commonly used model.
متن کاملIon pairing in aqueous lithium salt solutions with monovalent and divalent counter-anions.
Molecular dynamics simulations of concentrated aqueous solutions of LiCl and Li2SO4 were conducted in order to provide molecular insight into recent neutron scattering data. The structures predicted from the molecular dynamics simulations using standard nonpolarizable force fields provided a very poor fit to the experiment; therefore, refinement was needed. The electronic polarizability of the ...
